Join Music Direct Sid and Poundcake Punk DJ Maggie for another episode of WMSE’s Local/Live from the Studio with ZANG!

Zang! formed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 2022. Its members are Rusty Edlund (drums, vocals), Mike Stich (guitar), and Andrea Milewski (bass, vocals). Before Zang!, Rusty and Mike played together as a duo, making instrumental Post Rock under the name Soft Targets, and Andrea played in an indie/shoegaze band called Nastos.

The trio quickly learned that they had powerful chemistry together, developing their aesthetic into an amalgamation of spacey psychedelia, campy horror, and soul-smashing doom to create a unique sound that feels uncanny yet familiar. The lyrics center around esoteric occultism, gothic horror and the macabre, evoking a giddy sense of dread.

Live shows are loud and slathered with delay and psychedelic imagery, with audio and visual nods to classic horror movies throughout a set that refuses to breathe.

Their first single, and accompanying music video for “Banshee in the Forest” were released on Halloween of 2023, and their debut full-length album “Unearthly Delights” is set for release in early 2024 on digital and vinyl.
