Now in its 11th year, WMSE’s Big Band Grandstand has become a beloved holiday tradition, taking place at Turner Hall Ballroom on Sunday, December 7th at 4 p.m. Presented annually by Bob and Jenny Hillis in honor of Bob and Genie Friedman, this event offers something special for music lovers of all ages.
The celebration begins with a lively DJ set from WMSE’s own Dewey Gill, setting the tone for an extraordinary evening. Then, prepare to be amazed as Gunhild Carling—the multitalented virtuoso known for her mastery of the trombone, trumpet, bagpipes, recorder, and strings—takes the spotlight. With her big band in full swing, Gunhild delivers a one-of-a-kind performance, seamlessly blending instrumentals, vocals, and even tap dance into an electrifying showcase of pure joy and artistry.
