Join Music Director sid and Pound Cake Punk DJ Maggie for another Local/Live Session with Jon Henry.
Jon Henry is a songwriter who has never put himself in a box. Born and raised in Milwaukee, he began recording raps while studying at UW Madison. He immersed himself in the craft, eventually choosing to drop out of school while winning the crowds of college kids over with eclectic performances.
After releasing a few projects, he spent some time living
in Los Angeles, expanding his repertoire to other genres and learning
the industry. Although he didn’t reach superstardom in “tinsel town”, he performed
from Hollywood clubs to boardwalks at Venice Beach, from dive bars to
major label showcases. He released his debut proper album “Goodbye
Cruel World” around this time and incorporated dance, rock, and R&B
elements into a unique sound.
Upon returning to Milwaukee, he joinedthe world music band Astral/Subastral and performed with them untiltheir lead singer tragically passed away. Since then, he has become
both an engaging solo artist and a kind of mascot of the local creative
scene through his social media presence. Jon Henry’s music could be described as “anti-socially relevant”.
He raps like some kind of impish anti-hero, sings rock opera concept
albums, & does it all with hip hop lyricism, charisma, artistic integrity,
and commercial appeal. Jon Henry is currently promoting his remix of “Found My Swag”
featuring Dres, and the modern folk song “There Are No Superheroes”
