Local/Live: February 18 – The Revenge Society

POSTED:: February 12, 2014

FILED UNDER:: In-Studio Performances, Interviews, Local/Live

The Revenge Society is a sweet and sour armistice between melody and dissonance; Amber Ruthe’s sweet but sinewy vocals are juxtaposed with hack and slash guitar hooks from Josh Paynter, fuzzed out bass from Chris Holoyda and a breakneck rhythm section (oomphed up from drummer Steve Vorass), all contributing to a feeling that is enjoyably nervy.

The Milwaukee quartet is relatively new, but is already receiving critical praise for its recorded material and live performances, drawing comparisons to likeminded bands such as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, bolstered by strong female vocals and churning, yet angular, guitars and percussion. The quartet has slowly clawed it’s way into the city’s greater consciousness, and is here to stay. Love or hate them – you can catch their brash, melodic variety of post-punk in the local circuit a couple times a month.
