Join Music Director Sid McCain and Milwaukee Record Matt Wild for another session of Local/Live with Body Futures.
What comes to mind when listening to Do Not Befriend the Reaper, the new 6-song, 29-minute offering from Milwaukee, WI’s Body Futures? I’m probably not the best guy to ask, since I’m the drummer. But! I can pull from the impressions gathered from folks who have been kind enough to write about our previous two records, 2014’s Brand New Silhouettes and 2018’s Maybe it’s Just the Weather. Of the first, our pal Matt Wild of Milwaukee Record wrote, “Let’s take a moment to listen to an album created by a band that makes music for the sake of making music, and an album that dares to be willfully, gleefully, and thoroughly original. Let’s also not forget that this is a band that counts an effects-drenched autoharp among its musical arsenal.” When gushing on Bandcamp about Weather, our guy Conan Neutron wrote, “B-52s and Shudder To Think superhero team-up, Dismemberment Plan covering the New Pornographers. Whatever! Body Futures play music as unique as their name, it’s catchy it’s angular and it’s absolutely vital.” Ultimately to me, a biased inside source, Body Futures is a crew of four Milwaukee music lifers who like to play loud, sometimes mathy indie-rock informed by decades of playing, touring, and disregarding trends. We’re noisy, we’re poppy, we’re groovy…we’re friggin’ Body Futures.
