BRAID will headline WMSE’s Backyard BBQ at Humboldt Park on August 23rd!
WMSE 91.7FM, Milwaukee’s only free-form, community-supported radio station, is proud to announce that this year’s Backyard BBQ headliner is none other than Braid — the genre-defining Midwest emo band that helped shape the sound and spirit of post-punk indie music.
Their 1998 album, Frame & Canvas, remains a landmark release, named one of Alternative Press’s Top 10 Emo Albums of All Time. In 2023, the band celebrated the 25th anniversary of Frame & Canvas with a national tour and a standout set at Riot Fest. And last year, they rocked their way through Japan before landing on stage at the Best Friends Forever Festival in Las Vegas to mark the 10th anniversary of their acclaimed album No Coast.
The 15th Annual Backyard BBQ concert is presented by Lakefront Brewery, Valentine Coffee Co, and Gruber Law Offices, LLC., on Saturday, August 23rd at Humboldt Park in Bay View.
The amazing day will start with a performance by The R&B Cadets featuring a powerhouse front line of John Seiger, Robin Pluer and Paul Cebar, followed by local pop soul band Moonglow, then our good friend Jay Anderson has assembled the Voodoo Honey Brass Band, next up Collections of Colonies of Bees will take the stage to wow you, and lastly American emo band BRAID headlines the Backyard BBQ!

Since 2010, WMSE has hosted the Backyard BBQ, a free music festival that serves as a thank-you to listeners, supporters, and the community. The event provides a full day of summer fun for the whole family with live music, food trucks, activities, and cold local craft beer.
