Rhye w/ Special Guest Lo-Fang @ Pabst Theater
Oct 24 @ 8:00 pm – 11:45 pm

rhyeRhye is the product of two synced paths crossing at the right time and place. The two artists who comprise Rhye had been fond of each other’s work for some time, and it was when one member was working on a remix for the other that they started to collaborate. They had begun talking about the remix at hand, which led them to the conclusion that maybe they should adapt that remix into a whole new song that could be done together.

They had never met in person, so one told the other to meet at a train station in Norreport, Copenhagen. Upon arrival, they immediately started working on the song together. They ended up with three songs they were proud of, which would ultimately end up on their full-length. It all just clicked. Both of their styles of making music completely complimented each other and working together flowed effortlessly.

Eventually, one of them moved to L.A. and the other happened to be coming out to shoot a music video. They met up with two friends from a record label and played them the songs they had made. From that point, the project took off growing into a full length album.

Drag-Racing-exhibits-1Join WMSE DJs Tom Crawford and Saturday Morning Car Tunes DJ, Dietrich for a live broadcast from the Harley-Davidson Museum. They will talk and play music all about drag racing cause it’s the opening night of Drag Racing: America’s Fast Time. This is also a bike night so ride your motorcycle down or just come to check it all out.

More info on the exhibit –
Go under the hood with mind-blowing mad scientists of speed to see just how much blood, sweat and elbow grease hot rodders pour into their machines – two wheels or four – in their race against time.

Housed in The Garage, one of the Museum’s special event spaces, the exhibit will explore drag racing’s humble roots on the back roads and airport runways of post-World War II America to the raceways of today, where Top Fuel machines hit speeds in excess of 320 mph in a quarter-mile.

The exhibit will also explore how drag racing has permeated pop culture, weaving its way into movies, toys, and so much more as Americans’ fascination with speed has exploded. Storied gassers and hot rodders like Stone, Woods, and Cook’s Swindler B; Don Garlits’s Swamp Rat 13; and Chet Herbert’s Harley-Davidson, The Beast, will give race fans the chance to get up close and personal with these aces of asphalt. Artwork from legendary artists such as Ed “Big Daddy” Roth and Von Dutch will also grace The Garage walls.

Patti Smith Performs Horses at The Milwaukee Theatre @ Milwaukee Theatre
Mar 9 @ 8:00 pm – 11:45 pm

mtrain_authorWMSE Presents Patti Smith at the Milwaukee Theater –
Do you know how to Pony?

In the fall of 1975, Patti Smith gathered her band in Electric Lady Studios in New York City to record her debut album, Horses. Released on November 10 of that year by Arista Records, it has come to be regarded as a seminal and landmark recording that continues to have resonance and relevance for succeeding generations of musicians and artists.

Now, forty plus years later, Smith will honor the longevity and lasting influence of the album with a series of special shows centered around the album.

“It will be a true, proud celebration,” Patti says of her intent to perform Horses in its entirety. She will be accompanied by two members of the original group, Lenny Kaye and Jay Dee Daugherty, along with bassist / keyboardist Tony Shanahan, who has been a part of Her Band for twenty years.
