rhyeRhye is the product of two synced paths crossing at the right time and place. The two artists who comprise Rhye had been fond of each other’s work for some time, and it was when one member was working on a remix for the other that they started to collaborate. They had begun talking about the remix at hand, which led them to the conclusion that maybe they should adapt that remix into a whole new song that could be done together.

They had never met in person, so one told the other to meet at a train station in Norreport, Copenhagen. Upon arrival, they immediately started working on the song together. They ended up with three songs they were proud of, which would ultimately end up on their full-length. It all just clicked. Both of their styles of making music completely complimented each other and working together flowed effortlessly.

Eventually, one of them moved to L.A. and the other happened to be coming out to shoot a music video. They met up with two friends from a record label and played them the songs they had made. From that point, the project took off growing into a full length album.

Radio Drill Time Live Broadcast Harley Bike Night @Harley-Davidson Museum @ Harley-Davidson Museum
Jun 16 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Drag-Racing-exhibits-1Join WMSE DJs Tom Crawford and Saturday Morning Car Tunes DJ, Dietrich for a live broadcast from the Harley-Davidson Museum. They will talk and play music all about drag racing cause it’s the opening night of Drag Racing: America’s Fast Time. This is also a bike night so ride your motorcycle down or just come to check it all out.

More info on the exhibit –
Go under the hood with mind-blowing mad scientists of speed to see just how much blood, sweat and elbow grease hot rodders pour into their machines – two wheels or four – in their race against time.

Housed in The Garage, one of the Museum’s special event spaces, the exhibit will explore drag racing’s humble roots on the back roads and airport runways of post-World War II America to the raceways of today, where Top Fuel machines hit speeds in excess of 320 mph in a quarter-mile.

The exhibit will also explore how drag racing has permeated pop culture, weaving its way into movies, toys, and so much more as Americans’ fascination with speed has exploded. Storied gassers and hot rodders like Stone, Woods, and Cook’s Swindler B; Don Garlits’s Swamp Rat 13; and Chet Herbert’s Harley-Davidson, The Beast, will give race fans the chance to get up close and personal with these aces of asphalt. Artwork from legendary artists such as Ed “Big Daddy” Roth and Von Dutch will also grace The Garage walls.

Local/Live Archive: June 23 – Cry Coyote
Jun 23 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Over the coming weeks, WMSE will be digging into our archives to bring you some blast-from-the-past Local/Live performances; our next installment is a deep dive back to January of 2010, back to when Local/Live was a little shorter (but still awesome). Milwaukee’s Cry Coyote was dubbed everything from rock ‘n roll to cowpunk and garage-punk – tune in to relive their energetic swagger and help pay tribute to Alex Keshena of Cry Coyote, who recently passed away. Dillon Hallen of Cry Coyote writes:

“Over 10 years ago Cry Coyote walked into the WMSE studios hauling our beat up, beer-soaked gear, ready to spew our brand of cowpunk and sleazy rock ‘n roll to listeners over the radio. Leading the way on guitar was our ace in the hole, Alex Keshena. When Alex was in his element, he was a little Thunders with a splash of Richards but was still 100 % pure Alex. Other than being a killer guitar player and uncompromising rock ‘n roller through and through, he was one of the sharpest and funniest individuals I have ever met.

“He was a man that believed all you needed was a guitar to survive and in ideal world that would have been true. Alex Keshena will be sadly missed. He left a huge impact on all those who knew him and all those who have seen him play. For those of you who may not have, I, along with many others, are very thankful to the people at WMSE for capturing this piece of Alex for all of you to experience.”

Tune into WMSE to hear a tribute in our rebroadcast of Cry Coyote’s 2010 Local/Live performance on June 23rdWMSE.org to stream, world-wide, or simply tune your radio to 91.7 FM at the 6 o’ clock hour.

Local/Live on WMSE is sponsored by Club Garibaldi.
