Tom Crawford will host a phone interview with comedian Chris Titus.

Inspired by such greats as Woody Allen and Steve Martin, who wrote, directed, produced and performed, Titus has sold ideas to NBC, ABC, FOX and Comedy Central. In 2013, Titus formed his own production company, Combustion World Industries, and produced his own comedy special “Voice In My Head.” His first film production will be “Special Unit,” which is about four disabled detectives. Titus describes it as “The Shield with handicapped people” and is planning for film production in 2015. Fans can catch Titus weekly on his “never unbiased, always unbalanced” podcast “The Titus Podcast” and on The History Channel weekly as the host of the new game show “Pawnography” with the cast of “Pawn Stars”.

Christopher Titus is raw, real and most of all, funny. His honesty about his own life gives a voice to the human experience of every person that watches his specials.

Tune into WMSE to listen to the latest news about Milwaukee’s Altered Five Blues Band as they chat with DJ Terry Havel about their recent signing to legendary blues label, Blind Pig Records.

“The band’s label debut, Charmed & Dangerous, was produced by multi-Grammy-winner Tom Hambridge (Buddy Guy, Susan Tedeschi, George Thorogood, James Cotton) and will be released worldwide August 11th.

According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, frontman Jeff Taylor’s voice is “gloriously gritty.” Downbeat raves that Jeff Schroedl’s “live-wire guitar reaches the high bar of mixed invention and fluidity,” while Blues Bytes magazine declares the group features “the funkiest rhythm section outside of Memphis.”

Charmed & Dangerous is the eagerly awaited follow-up to the group’s 2014 album Cryin’ Mercy, which reached #3 in the iTunes blues store, hit #1 on the Roots Music Report blues chart, and won “Best Self-Released CD” at the 2015 International Blues Challenge. The new album features 13 tracks including one inspired by legendary Delta bluesman Robert Johnson entitled “Three Forks.” The song features music, adapted with permission of Johnson’s publisher, from the seminal classic “Crossroads,” plus a guest harmonica performance by Steve Cohen. Hambridge also plays drums on all 13 tracks, adding even more energy and authenticity to the record. Videos will also be released for the songs “On My List to Quit,” “Eighth Wonder,” and the title track.

Taylor commented, “We’re fans of so many artists and records in the Blind Pig catalog, from Magic Slim and Otis Clay to Tommy Castro, Elvin Bishop, and more. We couldn’t be more excited and honored. This is a major milestone for our band and music.”

“We’re very happy to be working with Altered Five Blues Band,” added Chris Lauterbach, Director of Owned Repertoire and Special Products for The Orchard. “The new tracks sound great, and we think their music adds to Blind Pig’s rich 40-year history.””

SEPTEMBER 21 – LOCAL/LIVE INTERVIEWS EPISODE 34: ALTERED FIVE BLUES BAND
Sep 21 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

During these strange times, WMSE aims to keep you connected to your local music community by getting up close and personal in conversation while taking a listen to new local projects, albums and songs.

Altered Five Blues Band makes music with a swaggering stomp of bruising, barrelhouse grit. According to Downbeat magazine, frontman Jeff Taylor “sings powerfully” and “Jeff Schroedl’s live-wire guitar reaches the high bar of mixed invention and fluidity.” Blues Bytes magazine declares the group features “the funkiest rhythm section outside of Memphis.”

A 2018 Blues Music Award nominee, the Milwaukee-based quintet released its latest album, Holler If You Hear Me, September 3 on Blind Pig Records. Recorded over five days in Nashville, TN and produced by three-time Grammy winner Tom Hambridge, the 13 original tracks showcase the band’s deft songwriting, Taylor’s mighty baritone voice, and the intuitive musical interplay of the longtime bandmates. Harmonica ace Jason Ricci also joins the group on five tracks.  The album debuted at #3 on the Billboard Blues Chart.

Catch episodes of WMSE’s new Local/Live interviews by tuning in at the 6 o’clock hour. WMSE.org to stream live or in the archives or simply tune your radio to 91.7 FM in Milwaukee.

Local/Live is presented by Third Space Brewing. “You have your home, you have your work, but everyone needs a third space.”

Less Than Jake The Toasters, Devon Kay and The Solutions – Welcome to Rockview Tour @ The Rave
Aug 12 @ 7:30 pm – 11:45 pm

The story of ska-rockin’ maestros Less Than Jake isn’t told in their sizable discography. It can’t be calculated by the amount of road miles they’ve logged. (But if we’re forced to calculate, we think they might be a block or two short of the Van Allen belts.) Nah! Less Than Jake’s cumulative worth is all about what they bring to your party. From sweaty club shows to uproarious festival dates to opening up for America’s most beloved rock acts, these five lifers’ deeds are best measured in the smiles they’ve slapped on the faces of true believers and new listeners, alike. Silver Linings is the name of the new Less Than Jake album, their first fulllength for the Pure Noise label and the follow-up to 2013’s See The Light. It also doubles as a bunch of sonic diary pages and a mission statement that cements their conviction after two decades in this rock ‘n’ roll circus. Indeed, LTJ—frontman/guitarist Chris DeMakes, bassist/vocalist Roger Lima, trombonist Buddy Schaub, saxophonist Peter “JR” Wasilewski and new drummer Matt Yonker—have escaped most (but not all) forms of ennui, depression and violence against screen-based objects to create an endorsement of humanity. Silver Linings also does a good amount of myth-exploding in its pursuit of joy. The songwriting core of DeMakes, Lima and Wasilewski wrote all the lyrics. While Silver Linings doesn’t skimp on the joy, fun or grooves, careful listeners will sense a bit more reality seeping into LTJ’s escapism.
