“Eliza Hanson knows how to smooth out life’s ups and downs by covering them with melody and charm and inviting us to come enjoy a place of peace and calmness with her. A celebration of everything we love about the singer songwriter genre, with a voice and style reminiscent of Janis Ian and Joan Baez and pleasantly set to a landscape of modern trials and tribulations.

“Eliza is best known for being one half of the Milwaukee Modern Folk duo Saint James, a group she formed with her college buddy and singing partner Evan Ditter. With a new EP and video just launched, Saint James has been enjoying acclaimed success around the Milwaukee area playing clubs, coffee houses and festivals.

“With Evan currently taking study abroad, Eliza has been trying to find her way in his absence as a solo artist. Fresh with song ideas and bubbling over with enthusiasm, she has been hard at work in 2014 striving to achieve a higher level as an artist. It’s this ambition for betterment which has lead to her early success as a performer, whom, with a steadily growing fan base is just starting a long musical journey which we all can be part of.”

Southern Culture On The Skids has been spreading the rock and roll gospel since since they formed in Chapel Hill, NC in 1983. Guitarist/singer Rick Miller, drummer Dave Hartman and bassist/singer/heartbreaker Mary Huff, play a greasy mix of surf, rockabilly, R&B and country-fried garage with a side of psych, all the while driving fans into ecstatic, sweat-drenched paroxysms of joy. It’s a musical gumbo Miller calls, “Americana from the wrong side of the tracks.” The band has been prolific and ubiquitous for over thirty years, touring everywhere from the North Carolina Prison System to Mt. Fuji, Japan and delivering what Rolling Stone calls “a hell raising rock and roll party.”

In 2014 the band was honored by the Southern Folk Life Collection at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with an exhibition featuring their music and cultural contributions. The flame-adorned La-Z-Boy from the cover of their Plastic Seat Sweat LP now resides at UNC-CH!

Friday – The Grovelers & The Mighty Deerlick

The Grovelers are a four piece band based out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They deliver high energy original rock & roll with influences stemming from late 50’s rockabilly, early 60’s garage rock and early 80’s punk rock.

The Mighty Deerlick has been rocking the people since its formation in La Crosse, Wisconsin in 1985, having outlived thousands of other bands, primarily due to not being organized enough to actually break up. Originally called The Slow Pedestrians, the band took on its current moniker upon moving to Milwaukee in 1988. Ever prolific, the band’s prodigious output includes the full-length cassette “Beneath You” (1989), the four-song 7-inch single “Stag Nation” (1990), and the legendary holiday tour-de-force cassette “Bells to the Wall” (1991). Since 1991, they have written several additional songs. The Deerlick has shared the stage with Soul Asylum, the Replacements, the Violent Femmes, Alejandro Escovedo,

MKE Boat Line Concert Cruise – Steez @ Milwaukee Boat Line
Jul 9 @ 9:00 pm – 11:00 pm

Categorization be damned, steez is — in the simplest terms and most convenient definitions — a funk band, a fusion band, a jamband, a disco-fanged multi-beast, and a basket case.

Churning out their self-described creepfunk, a high energy, danceable variety of funk — one uniquely laced with electronic and improvisational sensibilities — steez has garnered a loyal following throughout the midwest performing at music festivals and to capacity crowds at rapidly growing venues.  steez repeatedly receives acclaim for their live performances, which typically include a seamless weaving of thoughtfully composed originals and crowd pleasing covers spanning from Madonna to clever obscurities like Justice, Ratatat and Bob James (to name a a few).
