In-Studio Performance: The MAJI
Feb 14 @ 1:00 am – 2:00 am

The MAJI is a blues rock band made up of Milwaukee middle schoolers.  The three musicians, Isaac and Max Hoeschen and Jonah Roth, have been playing together for three years and have each been learning their instruments for five years or more.  Max also sings lead.  Maya Yandell joined the band about a year ago and also sings lead.  Her voice has accentuated the blues aspect of the band.  With its members between ages 12 to 14, the band has already landed a handful of paying gigs, including playing in front of thousands at the Bay View Neighborhood Association’s Chill on the Hill.  The MAJI will play at halftime of the Milwaukee Wave game on Feb. 23.

Gallery Night And Day Live Remote With Sonia @ Grohmann Museum
Jul 21 @ 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Grohmann_Artists_at_WorkJoin WMSE Blues Drive Sonia for a live remote from The Grohmann Theater as a part of Gallery Night and Day.  This year’s exhibit “Artists At Work: The Cedarburg Artist Guild.

In collaboration with the Cedarburg Artists Guild/Art on the Move, this exhibition features 42 works by 14 local artists. The Cedarburg Artists Guild was provided the opportunity to create new works—all with a working or industrial theme—specifically for this display. Guild members readily accepted the challenge and have been busy creating paintings, photos and prints for inclusion.

In organizing the exhibition, guild director Susan Steinhafel noted, “We appreciate the opportunity to work with such a wonderful museum and look forward to sharing our versions of human industry. Artists at Work should be a diverse and fascinating representation of the Cedarburg Artists Guild/Art on the Move.”

Sep 26 @ 8:00 am – 8:30 am

dontbreakdown_poster_70517_web

Tune into WMSE as The Shape of Rock welcomes Dan Didier, Producer for “Don’t Break Down – A Film About Jawbreaker”.

Jawbreaker remains one of the most influential punk rock acts of the 1990s—inspiring and collaborating with bands such as Rancid and Green Day, touring with Nirvana—with their trademark personal lyrics and blistering energy.

But an acrimonious album release split them apart, with all three members refusing to ever play together again. That is, until an emotional weekend reunion wherein Jawbreaker jams, reminisces, and tries to square away the hurt of the past in this energetic tribute (locally produced by the September Club!) that will have you moshing in the aisles.

The Brew-City Bruisers, Milwaukee’s own roller league, goes under the microscope in Roller Life, showcasing both the amazing teams (including but not limited to the Rushin’ Rollettes, Maiden Milwaukee, and the Shevil Knevils) that comprise this special community and the incredible women who have helped to form them.
