The Locust Street Festival began in 1977 when the neighborhood celebrated a win over the City of Milwaukee in a battle to widen Locust Street. This would have bulldozed fifteen businesses and displaced over 50 families along the street. Instead, the community came together and pushed back leading to the celebration & creation of the Locust Street Festival of Music and Arts. This year marks the 45th anniversary.
